No eviction drive in Burrabazar & College Street, clarifies KMC Commissioner
At least 11 people were seriously injured in a head-on collision between a state-run passenger bus and a truck in Kakdwip, South 24 Parganas, on Wednesday morning. The accident occurred on National Highway 117 when the bus, travelling towards Kolkata, collided with a truck coming from the opposite direction. The front sections of both vehicles were heavily damaged due to the impact.
According to police, local residents and officials helped rescue the injured from the wreckage and transported them to Kakdwip Super Specialty Hospital. The truck driver, reported to be in critical condition, was referred to Diamond Harbour Medical College and Hospital for further treatment. The identities of the injured have not been released yet.
Police have initiated an investigation to determine the exact cause of the crash. Preliminary details indicate that one of the vehicles may have been at high speed or attempted to overtake. Traffic on NH-117 was briefly affected but later restored after the damaged vehicles were removed from the road.
